I want to say that I have been reading this forum for about two weeks since I bought the boat. You guys have been wealth of knowledge, and now I must ask my first question, The boat in question is an 81 SX-190 that has been about 97% restored. I have bee boating since I was really little, but this is my first boat. I know ALOT about engines and have been through this completely. The previous owner bought it new in 81 and has really done it up right. The only thing I had to do was replace one of the exhaust risers due to some rust, and that was being picky. The motor from what I can tell is original but is super tight. I have a shop manual and I have read it cover to cover.
Ok now the problem. When the motor is first started it runs like a scalded cat. No problems at all. After about 30 minutes is starts to stumble on hard accel and out of the hole. At WOT is surges. This to me seems like a lean condition, and that leads me to the real question. The little sight glass on the side of the fuel pump has fuel in it, and it says to replace if you see fuel in this glass. Could this cause my stumble? Can I replace this fuel pump with a standard mechanical from autozone? I do not think the carb is dirty due to the fact this guy was super anal about everything in this boat. I have run tow cans of Seafoam through it.
Anyway thanks for you help and I want to help others the more I learn
