'81 evinrude 175????????

I just got another boat and I am not for sure of the year. I was told it was a 1981, 175 hp I have the serial number and model number but I cant find it where I was told to look before. Please help model# E175TRXCIM and serial # J0001254 also when I got it I couldnt get it to start but the battery was dead once I got it running I couldnt get it to shut off??????

OMC's code is the word "INTRODUCES" where each letter stands for a number ie I=1, N=2, T=3 etc. The "CI" in your model number indicates your engine is a "81"...1981. As for the not shutting off problem, I can only tell you that the kill circuit is as follows:<br /><br />Powerpacks have a black wire going to ground. Powerpacks have a black/yellow wire leading to the ignition switch. Black wire also at ignition switch leads from switch to ground. When key is turned to the off position, the black/yellow wire and the black wire are connected within the ignition switch which grounds and kills the ignition.
