j60tlcih - Belongs to a mate. Took it out first time and hot temp alarm sounded. Packed up and on the way home called into a boat shop. Was told Johnsons are reknown for dodgy temp sensors. Wanted AU$105 for a new one. Got a second opinion and was advised to remove and check t-stat and relief valve. Removed cover and found alot of fine sand in and around everything. What's the best next move? Thanks guys

it was suggested that the pressure relief valve may have been sticking and it should be removed. is there any harm in running motor without this part?

Without out the poppet and spring, won't the block overheat at idle due to inadequate water pressure and flow, ie the block will never fill up.
