81 20HP JOHNSON SEAHORSE TILT WONT LOCK

I have a 1981 20HP Johnson Seahorse and I can't get the outboard to lock when tilted in the up position. What am I missing? It locks no problem when down but up is driving me crazy.

the 85 model I got has a little knob on the front of transom mount that I turn to lock it when it's down. but to lock it when "up" I have to raise the motor, and there's a little "latch" looking thing on your left side if sitting in boat facing motor, and it's also on the transom mount, on the outside of boat. yours may be similar, if you need more help let me know I can snap a photo for you and email<br /><br />Mike
