I have a '84 tandem Loadrite trailer w/ brakes. I just purchased it this spring and assumed the brakes were not working due to the age of the trailer. I removed the front 2 wheels for winterizing and want to check out the brakes. What are the chances that I can get the drums off and get these brakes to function?

I just took off one of the drums.....all rusted.
I would try to put new shoes on but I don't think the wheel cylinder is any good. I will try and test it. I wonder if it is even worth the bother, or should I just remove the old shoes and say the hell with it? I wonder if I can get parts for it? The shoes and wheel cylinder......

Tony,
In my expierence I've found it's Much Cheaper,+ Much Easier, to buy Complete Brake Kits....
You Unbolt the complete backing plate, with the shoes + wheel cylinder still on it...If the brake lines are rusted, just break them off,+ Replace them too....
4 Rusty Bolts,+ You've got New Brakes.... The Only thing you reuse are the Drums....
Last trailer I did, The Kits were $3. more than Just the Shoes.....

Hi bondo.....already put the Grady down for the winter, only ran the outdrive once after the new gears were installed. Anyway....The kits were only $3? Where did you get the Kits? Did they include the wheel cylinders?
That sounds awfully cheap! Or am I misunderstanding you bondo?

That'a great site bondo, they have exactly what I need and the $ is reasonable........How can I check the accuator? Should I disconnect one of the lines from the wheel cylinders and compress the accuator to see if fluid comes out?
