My friend and i are working on this motor for his bass tracker. it will not idle correctly. we pulled the plugs on the motor and the #3 cylinder plug was dry as the rest of the plugs were a little moist with the gas oil mixture. the motor runs like a champ in the top end. any help?

sounds like a pilot jet in the number three carb, actually the second part of the carb that sources cyl 3&4 is plugged. Id say rip off the carb for the 3&4cyl, go thru it completely paying special attention to the pilot circuit then see if that takes care of it.

Re: 80's 50hp 4cyl 2 stroke problems

Well we pulled both carbs cleaned up really good. the screen to the fuel pump was full of dirt on both of them. replaced fuel line, gas in tank, and fuel filter. runs like a champ. started with NO hesitation. and the reason why there was no fuel on the plug in the #3 cylinder is it had just completed its power stroke and there was no raw fuel left. so no more problems there. we are taking the boat out for the first time tomorrow morning and we will have a another boat follow us out just in case:eek: but thats not going to happen. it just feels good working on something without paying someone to fix it. Great learning experience. Thanks

PS: sweet pic
