Hello, this is my first post here. I am running a 14' landau jon boat with a 8 hp tohatsu 4s. Can't get out of her own way. Am looking at 2 motors. 1 is an 80's era Sea King 15. I don't know much about these motors. Are they worth a darn? It is $200 and they say it runs great. Am going to check it out this weekend. The other is a 88 johnson 15 that has a few issues. Has a new carb and it runs... just not very smooth. He wants $400. Any advise on this Sea King (or the Johnson) would be GREAT!
Thanks!

A 15 ain't gonna get you much better, look at a 20/25 even a 30

Depending on the year?? the Seaking 35 years old might have points?
Might not.
Doesn't matter, great running motor. Well worth 200$

The Johnson 30 years old has a better ignition system but if it's not running right??
You might spend 300$ fixing it??

Do a compression and spark test?

The Seaking is easy to work on and the parts can still be found fairly easy.

Thanks for the reply Jerry. I am going to run the S K this weekend. The Tohatsu is a nice motor but super heave and 4s. I am hoping that the 2s power will give her a little boost. Not sure how much but at $200 I may give it a whirl. I believe she is only rated for a 15. The boat is an 88 Landau 1448. There is no plate or sticker. A little research and it is looking like 15 is it. Thought about trying a 20 but I don't usually exceed limits or stuff like this.

The Tohatsu 4stroke is heavier but not adding oil can be a plus+++

Good luck and let us know what you do??
