Found the 806031a is the current part number for the bell housing for the Gen2. Was able to find the other number 806031c is the older version of the Gen2 bell housing. Fun Times can double check but the letters don't go in sequence all the time. So if Merc changes to another vendor for making the same part they change the letter. This doesn't always happen but many things can cause Merc to change the letter.

That said, the parts are the same

Typically yes the C is usually found on the actual part itself as to where when you look up the parts on a parts catalog/diagram you'll typically (not always though) see close to the same number that has an A near the end such as we're seeing here. The C is the casting number the manufacturer uses in-house to help keep track of things but on paper heading out the door the A becomes the latest numbers / letters used.
