Hello everyone,

I'm looking at used Honda 4 stroke long shaft manual start kickers. I've been looking for ~2005 range but they are far and few between. I've come across a 2001 8hp and a 2000 9.9hp. The 9.9 is priced $95 more ($1200 vs $1295 CND). Both apparently low hours. I am unable to find the weight for each of these 2 motors as weight could be a concern for me. It seems the 15 and 9.9 are essentially the same motor so I'm assuming the 8 is lighter.

Any red flags for either of these motors? The 9.9 has had the water pump replaced. Is this unusual considering it is low hours?

The kicker is to be an emergency motor (and occasional salmon trolling motor) for my 2000lb Maxum bowrider with a 135hp mercruiser. The 8 should be more than enough for this boat, heavier fishing boats use 8's around here all the time, just wondering if the 9.9 would be a better investment.

Personally, I would go with the 9.9 hp if it were me buying. I am sure both are good motors. At that age, I would suspect both have had the impeller on the water pump changed a couple of times, just routine maintenance. Weight wise, there should not be more than about 10 lbs. y vote is the 9.9hp. I ran a 1993 Honda 15 hp and put about 4000 hrs on it.
