I've got a 8hp, 2 cycle Suzuki outboard. All of a sudden the motor won't run over 1 knot at full throttle. I took the cover off and gas is coming out of the pee hole on top of the carb. It went through 2.5 gal in 2 hrs.
Ahoy, Diver.

Your float needle is almost surely failing to seal the fuel inlet to the carb bowl.

This often happens when a small bit or debris gets caught partly through the inlet and won't allow the needle to seat.

Other common causes are a sunk or saturated float, worn out needle tip or a part failure in the bowl assembly.

First, get a Service Manual, then a carb overhaul kit. Overhaul the carb as instructed by the manual.

Good luck.
after cleaning the carb check the pump i had the same trouble with my 30 i kept cleaning the carbs every time i started the motor it sucked some more rust thru
problem was the reed valves were stainless and the bolts were mild steel and there was a teaspoon of rust on the outlet side of the pump
changed the bolts and no more problem
