8 hp mariner: adding a alternator ?

To run lights and a fishfinder I want to add an alternator to a (1997) 8 hp mariner outboard. What kits/parts are required and how dificult is it.<br /><br />Thanks in advance<br />Stewart from Connecticut

Parts / kits are readily available from your merc dealer or try merc parts express.com.Installation will require you to pull the flywheel which you likely do not have the equipment to do. Rental is an option.

You'll need a lighting coil kit, Merc P/N 42282A 4 and a battery charging kit, P/N 62351A10. Oh, and about $140 or so. Should give you about 6 amps of recharge power. Nice to have!<br /><br />------------------<br />I'm going to invent a TCW3/citronella oil blend and make a fortune!
