8 hp honda 4 stroke is ticking

I took a buddy out in my sons boat and hit a stick in the water. It stalled the motor but re-started after no damage was found to prop or fin @bottom of leg. The motor now has a noticeable ticking. Did it skip the timing or bend a valve can someone tell me how to proceed?

Does it "tick" when in neutral? In forward AND reverse gear? Does it change with RPM? With prop off? Need details.
