8.1 volvo penta

Having a problem with 8.1 l Volvo penta starts no problems, idles great when i give it gas to 2200-2500 the rpms automatically drop and catch itself up but still will not go over 2500 almost like it is starving for air i can't figure it out any suggestions would be great it is a brand new motor with less than 50 hours

Welcome to iboats j21 (mind if I call you j21 for short?)
There have been lots of versions of the 8.1 over the years. Do you have a Volvo SN for your engine handy?

Hey the motor is a 8.1 gi-a it is a 2006

Ayuh,... More likely Starving for Fuel.....

Check the Boat's fuel system for restrictions,+ Crud...

Hmmm... 2006, EFI, 2500rpms. Are we sure the engines not going into Volvo's version of the guardian system? Any tones/beeps? I'm not all that familiar with VP's ECM's, but i'm sure Don is. Any overheats? Oil level good? Last time the water pump impellar was changed?

Personally, I am going to wait for a SN. The 8.1 Gi-A engine was used from late 99 to 01, not 2006.
Along with the other questions,
Was the engine idling rough, or running rough.
Did you check the engine mounted fuel filter for water?
Have you checked the fuel pressure on both fuel pumps?

no water in fuel filter i will get sn soon sorry for delay motor is brand new 12 hours on it all fuses good fuel pressure on fuel assembly good all filters clean idiling smooth as could be only acts up when you get over 2500 then drops back and you have to pull back thottle to catch back up oil good
