Is there any difference between buying a 8.1 liter volvo penta head from a marine parts dealer or buying it say from napa since its a GM 496 ci Big Block?

block in heads are the same, however the cam is marine specific, the circulating pump is marine specific and the fuel system and ignition is marine specific along with the accessories on the front. marine 8.1 oil pan is a full-sump unit vs the automotive rear sump.

are you buying a complete bob tail or just a long block?

if you are buying a long-block, buy it without an automotive water pump, ditch the cam, install a marine cam and transfer everything over.

depends on what you need. a complete bobtail, a short block, a long block? minor rebuild? major overhaul?

you didnt wear the motor out because that would take putting well over 250 hours a year on it.

lets start with what the problem is and go from there?
