I inherited my grandfathers boat that I grew up fishing on. I immediately sent it to be serviced and gone through. The first day out it ran beautifully.
The next day on cleanup, I noticed some burned wires. It seems the insulation on the wires from the ignition switch to the motor has cracked from age. I have been replacing wires for the past three weeks. Im down to the ignition switch in the merccontrol box. The switch has a sticker showing "126" and "B51045". It has 5 prongs on it. The merccontrol box has a seperate choke button. Is there a replacement switch available? Thanks for any help.

If you are good at soldering, new wires can be attached to your switch.

just spend time cleaning it up, and use enough watts so you end up with good connections.

Replacement switches are available. They are likely solder on types. On that vintage Merc, orange is spark kill, red is +12V, Black is ground, yellow is starter solenoid, grey is choke, white is +12V accessory, and may power the ignition, depending on the model. Brown is tach sender

Thanks for your help. Could you tell me who may sell these switch's? Lately the ones I have found has a choke built into the switch. Of course I have to make things difficult and need one without. Thanks again.

You may find one at a Merc dealer. If not, just don't use the push to choke feature...
