'79 mercruiser 898

have a '79 20' searay with 898 mercruiser drive (305 chevy)...motor is wore out; runs poorly, lots of blow-by, no power, burns a little oil....any way, I was considering dropping in a 350, complete with new exhaust manifolds and carb...will my outdrive handle extra power??? what yaa think???

Alpha 1's are rated to 300 H.P. I would say yes.

The 5 liter and 5.7 use the same drive if thats what your asking
