79 mercruiser 165 hp coil resistance?

As I'm broken down on the lake and not at home to check service manual, I was hoping someone could tell me what proper resistance should be for the coil on this motor. I don't want to spend money on parts if I don't need them. Also, on a coil that's going bad, will it give a bad resistance reading when cold? (The engine is dying when it warms up) or will I have to warm the engine till it dies then quickly check resistance?
