I have this boat I bought that has a problem turning the motor over to get started. The motor turns fine when there are no spark plugs in, however it is hard as hell to turn when they are in. Someone suggested trying to lube the pistons a little, but that didn't seem to help. I have charged the battry and we tried jumping from another vehicle as well. I bought the shop manual for this motor, but it is very vague.

I am new to all of this. Would there be something that they would have turned off, if they knew it was going to be stored for awhile?

Thank you in advance,

Tom

If you have jumped the starter directly with a known good battery and it does not work...the starter must be replaced.

The Replacement part# is 819085T 1

TMD

Sorry, I guess I should have stated that the starter seems to be working correctly. The flywheel is not turning freely. I can't start it with the rope because I can't turn the flywheel.

OK, I used some WD40 like someone suggested at a boat repair shop. However that was not helping. I went to the auto parts store for a few things and priced a new marine battery. I noted the cranking power ratings and checked that against the battery in the boat. The battery in the boat was way under powered according to what I saw. So, I hooked jumper cables directly to the boat battery and the **** thing tried to kick over! I was excited, but then it did not start after several tries. I now diffenately know the starter works.

So, tonight I am going to buy a battery and some new spark plugs. I would have done this last night, but the step daughter and her drooler were working on her car in my garage. I got a late start, and will have to pick it up again tonight.

Any suggestions? Thanks again for all your pointers.

Well, you will be happy to know that it started up last night. It gave a little back fire at first, now it starts up every time right away. It looks like I am headed for water this weekend. Thanks again!
