'79 35hp driveshaft ?

I trying to convert my 35902A tiller from short shaft to long. I have all the parts I need from a donor lower unit that i believe is a '83 and looks identical except the drive shaft is shorter overall than it should by about 1 3/4".

The long drive shaft has a P# 328317 wich should be correct.

The difference seems to be in the impeller to lower gear area. The original is 8 1/2" compared to 6 3/4" on the long shaft.

Any ideas as to what is going on?

I've no idea as to what's going on but...... on the 1979 35hp Evinrude (Model 35902), the short (std) shaft is part number 323261.... and the long shaft part number is 323262. Neither number has been superseded.

Thanks Joe, it appears I have the wrong drive shaft.

Does anybody know what #328317 drive shaft is for?

328317 = 1984 30/35hp Evinrude/Johnson (Long Shaft)
