Ok I inherited a 1979 skeeter 150 hp mercury from my dad last year it was sitting in the garage for 15yrs, my husband and I got it running and it ran perfect compression was good on all cylinders and nothing was wrong with it at the time. Well this year took it out and it didnt want to go at a load you would have it at full throttle and it just wouldnt go, we took it in to the mechanic and he change the trigger, cleaned the carbs, put 4 treatments of sea foam, changed the stator and checked the switch boxes and ignition even took the whole half bottom of the engine off to check that as well, did diagnostics and all came out ok except that he thinks that one of the cylinders lower bottom half is not getting gas.. which means an overhaul he said that the oil is making it stick on that last cylinder...:(. Can someone out there tell me what else we can possible do to avoid an overhaul  Oh yeah he is gonna try to change the fuel pump next... :eek:Please HELP!!!! :(

well if it ran fine the first year being fired up after 15 yrs of sitting... then I would ask what you did while it sat this time. was it exposed to weather and varmits outside? did you winterize your engine? something happened while it sat is what im getting at and that may or may not have caused something else to fail.

WELL IT SAT IN THE GARAGE MOTOR WAS COVERED...THE ONLY THING MY DAD WAS UNHOOKED THE HOSE FROM THE TANK TO THE ENGINE, HE NEVER DID WINTERIZE IT... WE WINTERIZED IT LAST YEAR WHEN IT SAT AND COVERED IT UP OUTSIDE NEVER REALLY EXPOSED. i AM JUST REALLY PUZZLED OF WHY IT RAN FINE LAST YEAR BUT, NOW ITS JUST ACTING UP. wE HAVE CHANGED EVERYTHING IT POSSIBLY COULD BE EXCEPT WHAT OUR MECHANIC IS TELLING US BUT, MY HUSBANDS NOT SURE IF THE CYLINDER IS BAD WOULDNT THE ENGINE QUIT RUNNING?

Well my father had it sitting in the garage covered and had the fuel line disconnected never ever winterized the boat he bought it new by the way... I was always told to winterize all watercraft, and we did the last summer we used the boat, put fuel stabilizer and sprayed the spark plugs well my husband did.... I thought if a cylinder was dead the engine would not run at all?
