Help I recently purchased a 78 Glassmaster VI bassboat with a evinrude 100hp engine model # 100293R it has been sitting for several years. The starter was locking up so I took it off and took it apart the brushes and armature look ok the prob is I took the drive off and iam not sure of the way things go back also looks like the clutch part is sliping down shaft causing lock up I thought someone may have had it apart its a prestolite I put it back together but never put it on I dont want to damage my flywheel

Hey I just rebuilt my starter today and it notes in the book that reversing the brushes will make the motor run backwards. You may want to test the rotaion on the bench if it is running reversed it will cause the pinion to hold down instead of poping up?<br />Good Luck
