Probably you were running out of gas on the first tank, and sucked most of the bottom crud up into the carbs.

DHP

it was almost like it was flooding out or maybe not getting enough gas the fumes were pretty bad but would flooding cause boat to stall out when put into gear???

It sounds to me like your flooding out. Cause when you say "i had to throw throttle all the way and it finally caught" throwing the throttle all the way opens the butterfly plates all the way open in the carb. It coughs out the excess gas.

Try running it dry at idle and re-priming it. Just to re-set the floats.

-W
