Howdy,
I have a 78 model 115ml78c Outboard that came on the 24' pontoon boat I purchased earlier this year. The p.o. said that it did not have trim but after looking at it I noticed that it did. He said it has never worked so I was on a mission to repair. Well, after unloading the boat at the ramp for the first time, I went into reverse and the motor kept rising up. So I went into the water and noticed that the cast on the swivel portion of the motor was broken off so that I could not clip the motor down. Then after riding for a few minutes I beached the boat and told my buddy to put it into reverse. This time it wouldn't even engage. I went to adjusting and realized that apparently the cables must be stretched out beyond adjustment. We I got the boat home and starting removing the cables so I can get the exact length on order and seen that the shifting linkage that connects from the cable to the shift rod has about an inch or better of play like maybe a bushing is wore out. So...... What I need to know is,
* Trim motor runs but noting happens, can I rebuild? if so, how much?
* Is it possible to repair the broken cast or should I look for a like new section?
*What is the best shifting cables to buy for this year model?
*How do I repair the linkage or is it even possible.

I apologize for the long post. I'm fairly new to boating so everyday is a learning experience.

Thanks in advance for any advise given,
Scott

You might want to visit the factory parts diagram for your exact engine. You can cull the part numbers you need. Engine, control box, cables-everything.
