77 rude 140 running without impeller

this motor has sat for over 6 years. I know I need to replace the impeller but I want to do other things first. I want to make sure it runs and want to make sure it shifts and want to do hot compression check.
My Question
Is it safe to run with hose and ears knowing the impeller is probably rotten?

There's a good chance the impeller will end up in pieces scattered all through the cooling passages leading to overheating problems. Take the time to replace the impeller before running it. You won't be out much cash or time if the motor has other problems.
