My '77 Johnson 175 has water in only cylinder #1, all others are clean. If it was exhaust housing gasket I would supect it to be in other cylinders..am I right? Is the upper crank o-ring seals likely the cause? (This cylinder is a fresh rebore and compression is at 150lbs..as are the others.)

I would suspect the head gasket. Do a compression check of all cylinders.

Yes, as indicated above, the compression is good on all cylinders..which discounts the head or gasket. I have seen posts commenting on the subject pointing to top crank seal, but in this case the crank seal seals in crankcase pressure..no water. I had just resealed the crankcase to block due to rebuild...but maybe it is leaking. I will try the sealing the exhaust plates very well first to rule that out. Has anyone seen the exhaust/water plate - gasket - as the problem when only #1 cylinder is getting wet?

Has anybody else experienced #1 getting wet alone as a result of exhaust gasket?
