I have A 1977 Evinrude 115 that won't stay running. It will start with starting fluid but dies out quickly. I've replaced the fuel pump but it does'nt seem to be getting fuel to the pump. When I pump the primer bulb it gets hard and will squirt a small amount of gas out the tank side of the bulb if I keep squeezing it.Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

The best advice to give you is NOT to use starting fluid. It does not provide lubrication like pre-mix. It is definitely a fuel problem. Disconnect fuel lines at carbs and see if you can squeeze any through with primer bulb. If so then pull carbs and give a good clean and rebuild.

Trash the starter fluid! No oils = lots of harm. Get a small oil squirt can and fill it with pre-mix and shoot that into the crabs instead. Is the fuel pump on tight? I agree to clean the fuel system. If you have ANY air leaks in the system it will not function.

Bob

Thanks so much BK 68 & Bob VT . That was it, there was a small air leak between the fuel pump and the engine. I replaced the gasket and it fired right up. Also thanks for the tip on the starting fluid I never thought of that. thanks again.
