77 evinrude 55 hp oil leak

Oil/ Gear Lube supposed to be leaking out of this hole? Its making a mess of my water barrel...and other things.

well it is a drain hole .... so either you are seeing just gunk residue flowing down the exhaust section...... yet usually is darker but yours is grayish... again probably gunk washing out

or.... something else is draining from above

why not just disprove it is a gear oil issue.... by checking your GC oil ... any missing oil or mixed oil with water that would have replaced any oil ?? .

i did marine grease all my fittings on motor/ wondering if this is excess grease ill run on a clean barrel of water and see whats up

It is not the grease you put in the fittings !!-----There is a post on here almost every week asking about this sludge.----Very normal for a 2 stroke engine running in a barrel.-----Pressure test your gearcase to look for leaks if there are any.

yes indeed. i'm a muff guy. well until 2 weeks ago/ started using oversized barrel, as I was Tog Fishing and wanted a good rinse. used same water twice.
