Hello all,
I'm a new owner of an old boat. My first boat in fact. I have an issue with my engine stalling. I took my boat (83 Kingfisher bass boat) out to the lake for the first time today. The engine (1977 Evinrude 115) cranked right up with no problems.
I found a spot to fish and had the engine turned off for 30 to 45 minutes. When I tried to start it, it just turned over like it wasn't getting any gas. After trying several times it fired up. I put it into forward gear and it stalled. I have a Johnson Command Center control box. It has a lever on it that is only half there because the tip has been broken off. But it looks like it says to lift when the engine is warm? All I know is it raises the idle speed.
I got the engine started and let it idle at about 1500 and threw it into gear and it finally took off. At first I felt like it wasn't getting fuel at start up, but when its running it runs really good. When I push the throttle all the way forward it feels really sticky. There's not much control with the speed. My opinion is that it may have a bad top control or maybe bad control cables.
I dont know anything about this control box. Proper way to use it on start up etc. I'm trying to figure out if this is a mechanical issue or is it a "new captain" issue, my guess is a little of both.
Thanks in advance, Dave.
