To eliminate the fuel supply suspicion, have someone squeeze the primer ball continuously while you are taking off.
>If problem gone = fuel supply

The ugly thing about ignition is that it can be intermitent. If you happen to check it at a good time, you'll be fooled. You must check it when its acting up. Don't forget...you must check each cylinder individually, as its common to have only one cylinder fail

Good luck...

:)

Re: 77 --175 evinrude

sounds like idle circuit is lean. Probably needs carb cleaning. You can try the short cut way....
>remove idle mixture adjusting screws
>spray some WD-40 into screw holes
>'gently' blow with compressed air
>reinstall screws and turn in till just bottoms(don't tighten)
>back each screw out 1 1/2 turns
>restart engine and adjust each screw equally for best idle(re-adjust when engine warm)
>when best idle is achieved, check for bogging.
>if still boggs, back each idle screw out equally 1/4 turn at a time. then retry

if this doesn't help.......overhaul carbs....

goood luck!!!!!

:)
