I just purchased this engine and maybe I'm completely blind but I can't find where the water indicator stream should be coming from. When I put the cups on it and turn on the water it streams from a few holes around the lower unit but I cant see anything coming from what would be above the waterline when under power. I'm just curious where you should look to know that your water cooling system is working. Thanks in advance.

Don't think that engine has one (to old).

You can install one yourself or put a temp sender and gauge or both on it.
Might be an overheat buzzer already on the boat also.

If you just purchased the motor, change the impeller. Cheap part but can get expensive if it fails. Inspect the impeller housing while its apart and determine if it needs to be replaced. Did you get a manual for it? If not, it is a wise investment and will pay for itself many times over. Keep an eye out on ebay for one, or check out outboardbooks.com. Any new motor I get I rebuild the carbs, change the plugs, impeller, and thermostats. Might also want to check compression to use as a benchmark.

Was replying to previous post. Thanks High Trim, will do all suggested as winter project. Be ready for fishing in the spring. Any advice on why it may be running decent, but somewhat rough at high rpm, yet sputters for a minute then dies at low rpm? Getting new tank and hose tomorrow as I can see air bubbles around one of the fittings on hose. Did'nt know if I'm misssing something else.

Very likely that your carbs need cleaning. There are high and low speed jets that may need to be cleaned. This link may help . Good luck.
