76 Johnson 115 over heating

Was out in boat ran out of gas on one tank changed over to other tank got going and hose fell off tank put it back on and got under way agin went about 50 yards and overheat buzzer go off. Got home and changed water pump (pump had not been changed in a long time) Now you might go 50 yards and the buzzer sounds or you might burn half a tank Lake water temp is at 90 motor does not have therostate

Motor should have a thermostat !!!!!!. Check compression , blown head gaskets will cause overheating.

When you pull the heads to change the gaskets don't forget to change the deflectors. They can cause the same symptoms.<br /><br />Good luck!

I have good compresson motor runs good starts good and idles good hot or cold could the sending unit for buzzer be bad
