I inherited a 15 hp japanese mariner s13228 which I believe is a 76 long-shaft model. It starts right up but kills after 15-20 seconds. I cleaned fuel tank and replaced fuel hose. Is there a simple test to check fuel pump? What other obvious things should I check? I have a clymer manual but its a bit generic. Is it worth servicing, or should I let my brother use it as an anchor for his floating swim platform. Any
thoughts would be appreciated.
MNkid

Howdy, MN Kid.

What happens if you pump your primer bulb after start?

Sounds like it is using up the fuel you pumped in before start and not getting more.

Check out your fuel pickup in the tank, fuel lines, primer bulb and hoses for restrictions.

If they all check out and pumping the primer bulb keeps her running, overhaul your fuel pump.

Good luck. :)
