76' 85hp johnson

i have a 76 85hp outboard johnson motor, 2 cycle, 4 cylinders. it is leaking what appears to be gear oil but its its thick and black out the pee holes and from the back, between the lower and upper units. please help!

Howdy, BHoward. If you have been idling or trolling for extended periods you may be seeing unburned lubricant that can accumulate in the exhaust system. <br /><br />If you have no other symptoms that would indicate trouble, take her out for a 3/4 to full throttle run of 10 minutes or more to burn this off and all should be okay.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . . .<br />JB
