My son took out my 18.5 center console with an early 2000s Mercury 75 last weekend. The oil lever alarm went off and he filled the tank with the 2-stoke oil stored on board.
Even with the tank full - the alarm continues to sound a steady tone.
The steady alarm sounds even with the engine off but the ignition key turned to power on.
The oil tank is full.
I have removed the securing bolts from the oil tank and have removed the sensor "stick" from the tank. When I do so (with the motor off) the alarm stops sounding but resumes sounding when the "stick" is replaced.
I have shot wd40 into the hole that the "stick" fits into and have probed the hole with a wire hoping to reset whatever switch is up there but no change to the alarm.
Slide the wire stick in and the alarm goes off, pull the wire stick out and the alarm goes off.
Any suggestions?
