would hitting 4-5ft swells for like a couple of minutes at wide open throttle then slowing down cause the outboard to flood?

Could have stirred up some trash in the carb causing it to block a needle from seating properly.

Or trash/water in the fuel tank.

Are you using a fuel/water seperating filter?

There's a fuel filter inline. I don't know if it's a fuel/water separating filter.

Built in tanks can have a surprising amount of water accumulation without causing motor problems until you stir it up.

Small in-line filters stop trash but most are unable to stop water.

A larger spin-on cartridge type water seperating filter is highly recommended for all boats with in-board tanks.

Wally World usually has a generic for a reasonalbe price, under 30 for the kit, you can pay far more for name brands. All pretty much work the same, the filter is fine enough that the water molecule will not pass.

Change the filter annually.

Too much water in your tank you may need to clean your tank. Search these forums for tank cleaning.
