75HP Chrysler Impeller Housing Question

So I'm changing the impeller in my 75H Chrysler outboard and I want opinions on whether or not I should replace the housing while I have it apart.

Here is a picture of the housing with the old impeller in it.

Here are some pictures of the inside of the housing. There is some minor pitting. I have cleaned it with a little brake parts cleaner and a green scotch brite pad and a little fine steel wool

.

Here is a view from the top. I removed the rubber shaft seal before cleaning, but I do have it and it is in good shape. The part nmber on the housing reads 523060.

So does the housing look okay? Do I need to polish the inside to a nice clean shiny surface? Also I used blue RTV gasket maker when I replaced this impeller in May of 2014 is this okay or do I need to order a gasket kit?

The motor still pumps water , but I noticed at the end of last season it took almost a minute before it would start to dribble out the mid leg port. The old impeller isn't cracking or damaged, but the ends do appear worn some.

Any advice is appreciated. Also if I do need a new housing any ideas where to purchase one. I couldn't find a replacement housing for sale in the iboats store.

Always include the year and model#
Even the best of us can't remember what everyone has :)
That housing's rough but still usable.
If it takes time for the water to exit the mid section, the relief valve spring/poppet might be clogging?
Some older years had the relief spring some didn't

 Sorry about that.

I believe it is a 1981 original to our 1981 Starcraft SS160

Model # 756H2J
Serial # 1098

Clean the walls and the plate with fine sandpaper, put in a new impeller and try.
Otherwise ex Maxrules has a pump kit for Chrysler 3-4 cyl. 1 piece gearcase 1980-84, number 750-115.

99,75 dollars

So I ended up buying a new housing from a local marina repair shop. After trying to clean up the old housing I realized I just wasn't able to get the inside smooth enough for my liking. Plus the pitting at the bottom bothered me.

Here you can hopefully see the difference in the 2 housings.

I also ran a tap through the holes for the housing bolts and a die over the bolts to clean the threads.

Added a new gasket after cleaning up the old gasket material.

Cleaned the metal plate.

New impeller in the housing using a little dawn dish detergent. Paying special attention to the impeller rotation.

Made sure the key was in place.

While installing the pump housing made sure the key lined up with the slot on the impeller.

Probably easier to install the impeller on the shaft and then twist the housing down on it. Again make sure the impeller vanes a going the correct way.

New impeller housing installed.

Here is a little video of the engine running on muffs in the driveway. Everything working good and I'm happy I did replace the housing as the water flow seems much better now at both the exhaust snout and the mid leg. Now I just need to add a tell tale and I will be happy. Thanks for all the help and replies.

By the way the 2 most important tools I've found when working on my boats have been this forum, and the factory service manuals for my engine.

I purchased these off of evilbay about a year ago and they have been lifesavers. I have one for 70,75, and 85 hp and the other is for 75 and 85 hp. These motors are fairly simple, but a good factory shop manual really makes them easy to work on.

What can I say I love these old Dorm Fridges.
