I have a 75 hp yamaha 2 stroke outboard, year 2001, and I have a problem with the spark. Here are the symptoms.Upon cranking the motor, there is spark for only 2 seconds, then regardless of how long you continue to crank, the spark does not return; but when I stop cranking the motor and start cranking again, I get spark again for 2 more seconds. I've learned to live with this problem by cranking for a short period, then stop cranking and start cranking again. When the motor starts, it works just fine. I have had this situation for 3 years now. I found out why the motor was hard to start on my own, but I do not know the solution to my problem.I have disconnected the control wiring and started the motor with a screw driver across the starter terminals and the problem remains. I think I've eliminated the controls as a possible source of the problem.Another thing that I've noticed is that when I run the motor in January month, when its very cold here in Newdoundland, it takes a while (3 to 5 minutes) before the motor works on all cylindes. When it warms up it runs perfectly.Of course, when the motor is warm the 2 seconds of spark is sufficient to start the motor.
Any advice or do you have a Email address that I could get some expert advice.
Sorry, I meant to put this in the repair section for yamaha motors.Ist time poster.I don't know how to transfer it over there now or if its even possible.
