I have a mid 80?s 75hp Johnson. The engine had rebuilt carbs a few years ago and all in all has run pretty well. It has always been a little cold blooded on starts and often dies at idle. Once it dies it takes some prodding to start up again. Yesterday I was running WOT, then switched tanks then went to start up again. Engine was slow to start but would idle with some extra throttle but as soon as I put it in gear it would die? every time. Eventually I got in gear and moving and we ran for a while but it was not running well? felt like it was under powered. I?m looking for some suggestions on what I might do or check before I take it into a mechanic. It seams like a fuel issue. I know it?s tough to diagnose over a forum but I?d appreciate any recommendations or ideas. Thanks.

Try and run it on the other tank- could be a bad fuel line connection or other tank related issue.

Thanks... I'll check that. It was the same fuel line and a new tank of fresh gas.
