I have a 1982 75 HP Evinrude purchaced a few months ago. The carbs have been cleaned, changed the plugs, did a compression test all was well (117,120,122). Motor ran fine on a hose. Took it out and it would bog down at WOP, pulled the throttle back a little and it cleared up. At the dock the motor would not idle. Broke the carbs down again removed all the jets, everything looked fine. Checked and rebuilt the fuel pump, the diaphram was a little stiff. Took it out and had the same problem. Changed the stator and power pack. The coils were changed by the previous owner and looked new. Took it out and same problem. Does anyone have any good ideas. I plan on taking the carbs back off this weekend.

Follow-up; All carbs disassembled. All were clean. Floats and needle valves were good. Ckecked jet sizing compared to the manual and may have found something. Idle jet was .035, intermidiate was .031 and the high speed was .059. The manual states .064,.036 and .055. These carbs do not have external adjustments. Anyone have any comments?

Mustang - I have 1983 75HP (E75TRLCTE) and have the exact same problem at WOT. However, my motor idles great. The main issue that I see is that I have an excessive fuel issue. The gaskets around the carbs are soaked with fuel and I have fuel all over the cowl below the carbs. I bought this boat because the guy I bought it from had a receipt for $1200 in work that included a new trim/tilt pump, lower unit seals and 3 carb kits. Im not sure what the issue may be but from other posts that I've read it sounds like I have a dirty high speed jet?

One weird thing about the beahvior is that when I drained a tank today the thing just took off beautifully for a minute or so right at the end of the tank.

I have a Walleye tournament this coming weekend so Im not tearing it apart yet. Not sure what to go after but $80 an hour at the local shop is not in my budget this year. I checked spark on all three cylinders and it has spark. Compression is 130 on each cylinder. I have a 15 pitch prop and am still running about 26MPH at about 60% throttle on a 1983 Lund XRF 4.9 Super Pike. If I push the throttle forward anymore she bogs down. Running perfect I used to get about 37 mph.

Thanks in advance for your time to read our posts.
Hopefully someone will post some ideas.

ZigZaggin, it is rude to hijack anothers thread, you should have opened your own. you obviously have float mis adjusted. it is not closing the needle valve. please start your own thread.
