74 mercury 65 h.p. distributer

hi all, i have a 74 merc. 65hp that needs a new distributer cap. went to local dealer who said i cant buy just the cap, he said i could only purchase it as part of a distributer and he could order for around $250.00. is this true and if not were can i get one and do you have part #? thanks in advance for your help. p.s.to the powers that be this is a great sight keep it up.

You can purshase the cap seperatly, it costs $60. or more, try a dif. dealer. For that price try cleaning the one you have. Troy.
