Hey guys,

I'm going to be changing the fluid in my lower unit, and I just got the service manual for this motor. It says to use "sea-lube" or if thats not available, Dexron transmission fluid. I know currently that it has 85w lower unit oil in it and that obviously isn't correct. The bottles of lower unit oil at the store say "do not use in OMC lower units"

So is Dexron ok? The local marina wants 9.95 for one quart of Johnson / Evinrude lower unit oil.

Thanks in advance guys!

your motor will be fine using 80-90 outboard gear/lower unit oil. pre 73 motor used premium blend type C, because the had electric shifts. walmart sell a perfectly fine lower unit oil, and there TCW3 outboard oil is fine. save the bucks for gas and bait.
