74 Evinrude 85 HP 4 cyl. Spark Plugs

I searched and could not find...What is the best spark plugs and what is the gap for this old klunker that keeps on rippin through our little lake. I have always just gotten champion and gapped it at 30-32?? Thank you

hmmm, ive got a '70 85hp and I use Champion L-19v's, but my plugs are fixed, can't gap 'em. Sorry if that dosen't help any.

QL77JC4 Champions, gapped at .030 are the recommended plugs for you motor, unless you run low speeds alot. Then I would open them up to .035-.040....Fixed gap plugs are fine for all out running all the time, otherwise stick with the gappable plugs for less fouling and better performance at all speeds.<br /><br /><br />BTW scooke <br />Same for yours, too.<br /><br /> OMC Plug Chart

In my cylmer manual it says to go with UL77V CHAMPION .

A.A.C <br /><br />Clymer is wrong.UL77V is a surface gap plug. No adjustable gap on those... They Look like this type of plug:<br /><br />

Just checked it again ,you are right Rick and so is the manual,my mistake. there is no gap i looked just below.<br /><br />Sorry . <br /><br />P.S. I scanned the page but but don't know how to attach.
