74 Evenrude 85 HP on a 76 Crestliner 16 ft with Johnson controls (throttle/ignit

I put in new sparks and gas and oil and gear oil and she started up as usual for the summer. runs great. This time, however, it wont shut off!!! I followed the wires to the engine and cleaned and tightened all ground wires. It starts fine and stays on. only way to shut off was to disconnect the gas. Does this mean I need a new ignition switch?? Thanks

Use a jumper wire on the switch contacts to determine if it is the switch or a different wiring issue.

Check the ground on the control, sound like the kill switch has lost connection and it goes to ground.
