Guys,
The 65 merc I bought on my barge ran great for several tanks of gas but started running on one cylinder. It had done it for a few seconds several times in the past but wouldn't hit at all on the bottom cylinder. I took the plugs out and noticed a little milky stuff on the bottom plug. I also noticed a really crappy epoxy repair on the exhaust cover and the spark plug water jacket cover. I took off the exhaust cover and this is what I found in the pics. The hole in the jacket was "repaired" with epoxy, which I took off.
My question: Is this leaky hole what is putting water in my cylinder? Is there probably a hole in the inside water jacket, too, that I can't see that is actually leaking water in the cylinder? Or could water be leaking into the bottom cylinder from the jacket cover over the heads where the spark plugs are? I can see water leaking around the plugs on all 3 cylinders.
Is this block toast?
Any ideas or info would be very helpful!
Thanks,
JBJennings
