I have a 1973 Johnson 6 hp that will only start at full throttle and with the choke on. Even when its warm it must be started at full throttle (just don't need the choke). When I bought this engine this spring, it didn't have that problem but has become progessively worse. Any ideas that will help me cure this problem? Thanks!

a carb cleaning and rebuild. You may try running some sea foam through the tank and see if that will clean out the carb.

My 65 Johnson 6 HP was the same way. I bought it mid summer and it got progressivly worse the more I ran it. I went through the carb, new set of plugs and replaced the points and now it runs just fine. 1-2 pulls with the throttle just a hair past start.
