'73 45hp won't start after getting hot

I have a 45 hp 73 chrysler. When it is cold it starts right up. But after running it gets warm and then after you shut if off it won't start again until it cools. I dismantled the lower case and the impeller looks to be in good shape. Its the one that has 12 blades. It spits some water from the exhaust hole but never has sprayed much. Just kinda spits it out. Any ideas on what the culprit could be? Thanks

My 73' 55hp just spits water out at idle....kinda just dribbles out..However when I open it up the water comes out a lot. I am assuming this is normal because the motor has a new impellor in it and seems to run great. I do however have the same nice cold start bad hot start problem.
