I was tryin to replace impeller on 125 johnson (1972). I pulled th 2 bolts on each side and the one in front of the trim tab. However, the lower unit isnt hardly budging. Is there another under the trim tab, or am I missing something? That trim tab bolt refuses to budge so far BTW. Sorry tokeep bugging you guys, I really appreciate all the help and info!!!

There is another one under the trim tab. Also you will need to disconnect the shift rod linkage.

Thankx, I do have electric drive as far as shift rod. That stubborn bolt on the trim tab is gonna be fun. The 6 pt. socket started to round it!

before you drop that lower unit, disconnect the shift wires from the harness and tie a piece of string to each one so thatafter you finish you can pull the string and the wires will come back up, its almost impossible to thread those wires up the leg without em

Use a drill, and drill the head right off that trim tab bolt. Centerpunch it first, so you can drill a real accurate, well-centered hole right up through the bolt head. The trim tab will then fall off, and you can remove other bolt found underneath it. <br /><br />If that one gives you trouble too (likely), hit it with an oxy-acetylene torch, or HARD with a propane torch. The castings are aluminum, the bolts stainless steel. These two materials expand way different amounts when heated, so when you heat them you break down the bonds. <br /><br />Once the lower unit drops off, you'll be left with nice, fat stubs of bolts you can grab with a GOOD brand of vicegrips (as in ViceGrip brand, not the Chinese stuff). Hit the area with the heat, splash some PBBlaster or WD40 on there every once in a while, and work that bolt out. It may only turn a little bit at first. No sweat, you've got it beat. Just work it back & forth forcefully but not overdoing it, hitting it with the heat & the PBBlaster every once in a while...it'll pop right out.
