I'd really appreciate it if anyone knew offhand the rodbolt and head bolt torque and torquing pattern, and the direction of pistons and rods as far as oiling hole direction-if there is one.
Thanks,
JBJ

Re: '72 johnson 50hp rod and head bolt torque

Head bolts = 16 to 18 foot pounds, torqued as follows:

9....10
5.....6
1.....2
4.....3
8.....7

Connecting rod cap screws = 29 to 31 foot pounds.

Connecting rod = Oil hole near wrist pin, faces up.

Piston = Has a "up" imprinted upon it near the edge.

Re: '72 johnson 50hp rod and head bolt torque

Thanks a heap, Joe!!!!
Will let you guys know how it turns out in a few days when I get it all assembled. The lower unit and midsection are pretty tough to get back together! I don't see how one person can do it alone.....
I did use new rings on the "new" piston....

'preciate it,
JBJ
