I have an old johnson with hydro-electric shift. As is the case with most of these old remote controls, mine is missing the switch in the control box that controls F-N-R. I currently have it wired with a 3 way light switch, and it's adequate, not optimal.

I've bought 2 or three control boxes hoping to find a switch intact, but I'm done wasting my money like that.

Two years ago that internal switch was seemingly a discontinued part, now when I do a search, the johnson website directs me to 3 places here in the US that list this part as available from the factory.

Is this possible? (none of those online stores have replied to my inquiries yet)

Of course it is possible. There might be some other dealers that have one also. You might consider looking for one for an earlier motor. It won't have the start-in-neutral feature, but neither does your house switch. The 1972 switch was only used for one year but the earlier ones were used for several years and there might be a few more of them around. You can add a starting safety switch to the motor like the early ones which will prevent it from starting at high throttle settings.

The hydro-electric actually goes back to 1968, but I didn't look that far back. Check it out.
