'72 Evinrude 65hp mounting question

I just picked up this engine to replace my 40 horse.
My question is with respect to mounting - the motor came with the motor mount shown in my hand. The 2 bolts used in the mounts are obvious enough - but what about the single bolt hole directly adjacent to the model # plate? 6 bolts seems overkill to me - but is it feasible to just leave out the 2-holed motor mounts and simply use 2 bolts through the bracket permanently attached to the motor?

Hopefully my question is clear, if not - does anyone have pictures of motors with a similar mounting system?

I have no plans to install a power tilt system.

thanks for any help,
Kevin

4 bolts are fine the 2 you have bolts in and the other side. dont use top hole and bottom of slot. You will not have any adjustment I would start with anti-vent plate about 1/2 inch above bottom of boat and put the top bolt in the top hole. Then drill the bottom hole so the bolt fits at the top of the slot.

You are supposed to start with the motor resting on the transom. Then use the top bolt holes and the top of the slot. That will allow the lowest height setting. Then if you want to experiment with higher settings, simply remove the top bolts and loosen the ones in the slots and raise it to the next set of holes and reinstall the bolts. You can go as high as the fourth holes if you want to, but I've never seen a boat where you could get away with that high. In fact 90% of them are just fine all the way down on the transom. You can tell by the excessive cavitation (ventilation) if you get it too high.

Those single holes above the slots are optional lower bolt locations for where boat construction prevents using the ones through the slots.
